Oh, Leeds. Have I really been here more than two months?

This week God graced me with the first snow of the season and my first snow ever. I woke up at 8am after having been asleep for 4 hours thanks to my need to keep up with the US Presidential election. Waking up, the snow covered back garden was breathtaking. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Though, sadly, only a few minutes later, I realised I should check the election results.

Could this be God’s will?

There’s a lot to be said about the things that humans do are opposite of how God feels for us. We sin. We hurt God. We hurt others. We are a part of a bigger picture of the imperfect world we live in. So what can we do? Seems like a pretty bad deal. We’re corrupt people who by every fault of our own don’t deserve love.

Thankfully, the answer is, ‘but grace’.

God provides grace when we deserve none. 2 Corinthians 12:8 brings us “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” We can rejoice in the fact that no matter what we do, Christ is merciful.

That means that no matter how things seem to be going or how poorly our world reflects Christ, His grace is sufficient for us. For you.

I take great comfort in this at times when I feel like our world is fragile and corrupt. There’s forgiveness regardless of our mistakes. Not only at times with our world but at times when I feel like God didn’t mean to send me to England and I somehow made my way here on my own. I remember that I can’t do anything without God’s permission, I can’t do anything that isn’t in His plan. What a great comfort.

So, whether things are going great or could be better, remember that you’re covered by limitless, almighty, perfect grace and power.

Bethany graduated with a degree in media from the University of Houston. She’s always had a heart for mission and when Christ opened the door to work with university students in Leeds, she thought it was too good to be true. She misses enchiladas and her dog.
