Youth Minister Vacancies – Tees Valley Youth for Christ

Tees Valley Youth for Christ are seeking to employ 2 Youth Ministers to work in the Tees Valley from January 2020.

The post-holders will support local churches with their youth work, develop links with local schools and offer support where required. The role will suit a person who is highly self-motivated, organised and an effective communicator with experience in leading worship and a minimum of 1 year experience in youth ministry is essential.

Hours: 16 per week worked flexibly over 6 days.

Term: Fixed 3 years

Salary: Self-funded – £7488 per annum minimum, dependant on personal fundraising.

This role requires that the post holder works towards raising their own salary costs through personal fundraising and developing a team of partners to support them in their work within Tees Valley Youth for Christ. We are looking for someone who has a positive attitude towards this requirement, given support and training.

Candidates applying for this role will be expected to comply with safer recruitment initiatives, including a self-disclosure of any criminal history. The position is dependent on suitable references, a satisfactory DBS check and attendance at regular safeguarding training.

There is an occupational requirement that the role holder is a committed Christian in accordance with Part 1 of Schedule 9 of The Equality Act 2010.

Job Description

Title: Youth Minister

Job Summary: To deliver, promote and develop Christian Youth Work in The Tees Valley.

Reporting to: The Director, Tees Valley Youth for Christ

Main Duties

Be the first point of contact for youth work at their placement church.

Organise and lead regular youth activities for young people both within the church and in the local community including Sunday and mid-week sessions. This will include managing admin relating to the running of youth and children’s sessions and clubs including consent forms, registration etc.

Develop and manage a team of volunteers to assist in all areas of children and youth work.

Develop existing school’s links by delivering assemblies, Christian lunch clubs, Christian Unions and supporting the teaching of RE lessons in both primary and secondary schools.

Build relationships with children and young people with the aim of deepening their Christian faith, including mentoring.

Lead worship at church services and at other Christian events.

Find opportunities to take young people to Christian based youth camps and/or residential and carry out all necessary planning and organisation.

Fulfil the mission of Tees Valley Youth for Christ by taking the good news relevantly to young people with the mission of seeing young people’s lives changed by Jesus.

Attend Tees Valley Youth for Christ weekly meetings, training and National Conference.

Promote the work of Tees Valley Youth for Christ and encourage individuals and churches to partner with us financially and through prayer support.

The nature of the role will require commitment outside of normal office hours including evenings and weekends.

Key Skills

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Christian youth work is essential.
  • Passionate about youth work and have an understanding and experience of working with young people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work alone and use initiative, and to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Highly organised.
  • Flexible and adaptable to working with different personality types and in different contexts.
  • Ability to organise and motivate a team of volunteers.
  • Good at presenting in front of people.
  • Reasonable level of musical ability, preferably including playing a musical instrument, and experience leading worship.
  • Good networker of people
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint
  • A certificate in First Aid is desirable
  • Good knowledge of Safeguarding and risk assessment.
